Find and extract crude oil
Oil-field locations are fixed; each region has one finite reserve shared by all pumpjacks.
- Survey the ground — Use the reusable survey kit on the ground. It searches the current region and its eight neighbors.
- Follow the signal — The signal points to a neighboring field region and estimates its richness. It is not a distance to an ore block.
- Place the pumpjack — Place it anywhere inside the discovered field region; no ore block needs to be exposed.
- Power and collect — Apply a redstone signal, then use an empty can to withdraw up to 20 L of crude oil.

One reserve per region
Every pumpjack in the same region draws from the same underground reserve.
Keep the chunk loaded
The pumpjack extracts only while its chunk is loaded and its buffer has space.
Drain the buffer before breaking the pumpjack. The dropped item does not retain crude oil.
